Contours Festival is a brand new one day festival set up and run by volunteers from Sheffield University aided by Sheffield Students' Union and RAG, with all profits from the event going to local charity, Safe At Last. Contours brings a wide variety of music across 4 different venues in the centre of Sheffield. Venues include The University Arms, The Raynor Lounge and The Harley during the day, with DQ and The Harley also confirmed to run at night as after parties. A number of local and student acts have already confirmed to play, with the styles ranging from acoustic and folk to indie bands, live reggae, DJs playing hip hop, funk, house, drum and bass, electronica and more. As well as RAG, Forge Media will be supporting the festival, alongside other student and local community groups.

Give it a Go is an activities programme full of fabulous activities and sports for you to try. It gives you the chance to try new things, meet new people, learn new skills and visit different places. Look out for the booklets as it is bursting with fun and exciting things, all run at a beginner's level.

With the Give it a Go programme you can try canoeing, zumba, foreign languages and even board a coach for one of our day trips or weekends away! All the activities work on a pay as you go basis, so just buy a ticket in advance from the Students' Union Box Office and turn up. Simple!

Sir Chris Bonington is Britain's best known mountaineer and one of the most successful expedition leaders in history. He started climbing at the age of 16 and has been on 19 Himalayan expeditions, including 4 to Everest. He is renowned for having made many first ascents in the Alps and all the greater ranges of the world.

Chris was the first mountaineer on the lecture circuit but it has been twenty years since he last toured regularly. This Autumn Chris will be presenting a brand new “life and times” talk, covering his sixty years spent in the mountains. With original images and raw footage, this is a rare opportunity to hear about some of the greatest expeditions of the twentieth century.

The Tuesday Club is temporarily moving venue, after 14 years in its current home at Sheffield Students' Union, as the Foundry & Fusion venue undergoes extensive refurbishment.

The Tuesday Club is nationally known as a specialist music night centered around credible, underground electronic and live music. Past guests include Radio One DJs such as Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Toddla T, Skream and Benga as well as ‘Number One' selling artists such as Nero, DJ Fresh and Rudimental.

Other artists to have graced the stage include Mark Ronson, Moloko, Mr. Scruff, The Beastie Boys' Mixmaster Mike, Jamie XX, Chase & Status, Pendulum, Bonobo, Quantic Soul Ochestra, Roni Size and Roots Manuva.

If modern British adventure has a face, it looks a lot like Leo Houlding. A climbing prodigy who started by scaling the Old Man of Hoy at just ten years old, 31-year-old Leo has climbed the most difficult and highest mountains in the world.

In search of ever greater adventure, 2012 took Leo to the wildest, least accessible and most contrasting corners of Earth - deep into the Amazon jungle and to the centre of the Antarctic wilderness.

Cerro Autana is a sacred mountain deep in the Venezuelan jungle. Just to reach the mountain, Leo faced deadly snakes, searing heat, swarms of insects and a terrifying encounter with a shamans blow pipe - a tale Indiana Jones would be proud of.

Ulvetanna, “the wolfs tooth” in Norwegian, is a 4500ft cliff situated in Queen Maud Land a remote, rarely visited area of Antarctica. It is the hardest summit to reach on the harshest continent on Earth. Temperatures of minus 40, hurricane force winds and a remoteness unlike anywhere else on Earth. Leo is currently climbing this mountain - his most difficult challenge to date.

Climax, Yorkshires biggest lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and trans clubbing experience, is about to shake things up!

From September 2012, Climax will be calling the Sheffield Hallam Hubs its new temporary home, whilst the legendary Foundry and Fusion at Sheffield Students' Union undergoes extensive refurbishment.

Climax has already run two hugely successful events at Hallam Hubs over the past year to celebrate Sheffield Pride.

Emma Kirk, promoter of the Climax events said: 'When looking for a new venue to host our event over the next year, we felt it was important that we chose a venue that holds the same values that we do at Sheffield Students' Union, and we thought another Students' Union would be perfect'.

'Climax has proudly supported both Universities' LGBT committees and the LGBT community of Sheffield for over 16 years. And we will continue to do so in our new home, a venue with tonnes of character, in a great location, which has as much commitment to the support of Sheffield's LGBT scene as we do.'

Sheffield RAG, standing for 'Raising and Giving', are a working committee under the mighty banner of the University of Sheffield Students' Union.

This means we are students who run events for students…and the local community, spreading lots of RAG love. We give out our free time to organise charity events in order to accumulate as much cash as possible so we can support mainly charities in the local South Yorkshire area, that need a financially helping hand.

Within the academic year 2010-11, through the generosity and energy of Sheffield students, RAG raised over £202,474 for over 97 charities. From RAG raids, to hitch-hikes and treasure hunts across Europe, we plan to make 2012/13 even more successful with your help!
