A German comedy about a father attempting to reconnect with his daughter through a series of over-the-top hijinks.
Ines’ father, Winfred, reconnects with her the only way he knows how to: through practical jokes. He disguises himselfas ‘Toni Erdmann’, inserting himself in Ines’ life without her co-workers realizing who he is. The father-daughter relationship is rocky due to Ines’ corporate drive which makes her bottle up her feelings, and Winfred’s lack of respect for boundaries in his quest to stop her workaholic tendencies. With great performances from Sandra Hueller and Peter Simonischek, this physical comedy will warm your heart.
About Film Unit
Film Unit is the award winning independent cinema located in the Sheffield Students' Union. Founded in 1949, we are a group of cinema lovers who desire to provide entertainment, to be not for profit, and to promote film as an art form.
We screen a selection of films on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during term time, with the cheapest ticket price in Yorkshire. We specially curate our programme with blockbusters, independent, foreign, family and classic cinema to ensure we provide something for everyone. For us, cinema should be for everyone, so all our programme is open to the public, our matinee screenings are Hard of Hearing friendly with subtitles and this semester we are hosting a special Autism-friendly screening. We're also working with Unite the Union to bring you two very special free screenings of Ken Loach's newest masterpiece and on April Fools' Day, we're holding a hilarious Fools Festival of British Comedy Cinema. We are volunteer-run so if you'd like to get involved, please get in touch.
Once again many thanks to all our staff, volunteers and of course, our audience!
