In the streets of post-WW2 Rome, jobs are scarce and poverty is rife. Young father Antonio finally finds work putting up posters around the city, but the job requires a bicycle. Desperate for work, the family pawn their bedsheets to get the bike, only for it to be stolen on his very first shift. Faced with the threat of losing the income his family desperately needs, Antonio and his young son Bruno search the city for the stolen bike - and learn a lot about poverty, desperation, family and community along the way. Vittorio De Sica's black and white classic is an influential masterpiece of Italian neorealism, set against the real backdrop of a shattered post-War Italy attempting to rebuild itself.
