Hadrian's Wall and Carlisle Day Trip

Glossop Road entrance to Bar One • 27 May, 7.30am - 5.30pm

Hadrian’s Wall is the most popular tourist attraction in Northern England and is listed as a World Heritage site. The wall was built in 122 AD by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a form of defence from other invading countries. The wall once stretched across the whole of Northern England from East to West, just over 117km and included military forts and signal towers which symbolised Roman power in both Britain and Rome. Today, only parts of the wall still remain and on this trip we will be visiting Housesteads Roman Fort which is the best preserved part of the wall. The afternoon will be spent in the nearby town of Carlisle which too was a Roman settlement. Here you will have free time to explore. You could check out the Citadel tower, the cities’ cathedral or wander around the shops.

The trip will run with an 7.30am departure from the Glossop Road entrance to Bar One. Please note that once we arrive at Houseteads Roman Fort to View Hadrian's Wall there is a 10 minute wall over the countryside to the top, so please ensure you dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. We will have free time at Houseteads Fort before returning back to the coach where you will be then dropped off into Carlisle. You will have free time in Carlisle. You will then be expected to be at the Carlisle meeting point at the end of the day at 5.30pm, so we can travel back to Sheffield.

What's included with my ticket?

Your ticket is great value for money and includes all coach transport to and from Carlisle, including entry to Housesteads Roman Fort where you can view and walk along Hadrian's Wall. You're free to explore the wall in your own time and at your own pace. We will give you an itinerary and map when you are on the coach so you can plan your day accordingly. You will also be given information when we arrive at Carlisle.

Team Give it a Go will be with you, but you will be left to your own devices for the day.
