Funny Cow (15)

Sunday 11 November 2018
7:30pm - 9:30pm
Film Unit Cinema in the Nelson Mandela Auditorium

Director: Adrian Shergold Cast: Stephen Graham, Paddy Considine Country: UK Language: English Despite her job as a comedian, ‘Funny Cow’, as she is known, has an incredibly troubled past, full of abuse from those she thought loved her. However, this gives her plenty of material to use to create a raw and interesting comedic set that sends her from working men’s clubs to stardom. With a beautiful soundtrack composed by Sheffield-native Richard Hawley, this film is a glimpse into the worlds of the crude and vulgar stand-ups of the late 1970s and early 1980s, as well as the lives of the people in pre-Thatcherite Britain. An intense mix of comedy and drama, it delivers an emotional story through the fantastic performances of Maxine Peake and Paddy Considine, amongst others.
