A classic of Soviet sci-fi, Stalker follows the story of two men, a writer and a professor, as they journey into a treacherous and forbidden area known as the Zone. Searching for the Room, which is said to grant wishes, they are guided by a man known as the Stalker, a veteran of the Zone and its dangers. Often labelled one of the greatest drama films of the 1970s, it explores several ideas, such as memories, fears, fantasies and nightmares. Less about the story, and more about the thoughts and ideas it considers, this film is a fascinating knot of philosophy and psychology, which strips the genre of science-fiction down to its bare bones.
