Director: Barry Jenkins Cast: KiKi Layne, Stephan James Country: USA Language: English From the Oscar-winning director of Moonlight comes another emotional rollercoaster in the form of If Beale Street Could Talk. Based on the novel of the same name, the story follows Tish, a young black woman living in Harlem, whose husband is arrested for a crime he did not commit. With her partner in jail, and her first child on the way, Tish must fight for her husband’s innocence in the face of religious backlash from her close family. Whilst on the surface the film may seem sombre and pessimistic, at its heart is a beautiful love story about a young couple and their battle to return to each other.
