Sunday 19 May 2019
7:30pm - 10pm
Film Unit Cinema in the Nelson Mandela Auditorium
Director: Adam McKay
Cast: Christian Bale, Amy Adams
Adam McKay's last film The Big Short was a scathing, darkly comic attack on the greed and corruption that caused the 2008 financial crisis. This time around, the writer-director sets his sights on one of the most controversial figures in US politics - former Vice President Dick Cheney (an unrecognisable Christian Bale, who once again transforms himself for a role). Charting his rise to power from intern in the Nixon adminstration to arguably the most powerful VP in history under George W Bush (Sam Rockwell), via his involvement in the oil industry and pivotal roles in the Gulf War and War on Terror, this is a sharp, satirical and furious takedown that's deeply relevant to today's political situation. The film's supporting cast includes Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld and Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney.
