How does a white boy from Sheffield write as a black woman from Cape Verde? Jethro Soutar presents his latest translation, The Madwoman of Serrano by Dina Salústio, the first novel written by a woman in Cape Verde. He will discuss the book’s feminist questioning of traditional narratives and the challenges involved in bringing works from Africa into English with Annalisa Toccara, founder of Our Mel, a social enterprise dedicated to exploring cultural identity and black history.
