Frida Kahlo was one of the most original women and artists of her time, or any time, and this is her life story. After a traffic accident at age eighteen, Frida turns to painting to channel the pain of her injuries into incredible artwork that is surreal, emotional and iconic. But her story is much more than her artwork. Frida has many intense and tumultuous relationships, from her mentor, husband and fellow artist, Diego Rivera to her affair with Leon Trotsky. She is also a political revolutionary and an icon for feminists, the LGBTQ community, and Chicanos alike. This biographical film is imbued with the fiery passion and creativity that Frida herself possessed and was nominated for 6 academy awards.
