Freddy is a 30year old gay transgender man who wants to have a baby. After years of contemplation and soul searching he decides he wants to carry his own baby. But being pregnant comes with so many challenges both physically, dealing with his changing body, and emotionally dealing with society’s responses to his experience which challenges understanding of gender, identity and parenthood. Seahorse was filmed over the course of three-years, following Freddy from his preparation to conceive through to the birth of his new baby. Jeanie Finlay has directed a tender and rather wonderful documentary about love, family and the complexities of identity that's sure to be one of the most honestly moving things you will witness.

About Film Unit

Film Unit is the award winning independent cinema located in the Sheffield Students' Union. Founded in 1949, we are a group of cinema lovers who desire to provide entertainment, to be not for profit, and to promote film as an art form.

We screen a selection of films on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during term time, with the cheapest ticket price in Yorkshire. We specially curate our programme with blockbusters, independent, foreign, family and classic cinema, to ensure we provide something for everyone. For us, cinema should be for everyone, so all our standard screenings are open to the public, our matinee screenings are Hard of Hearing friendly with subtitles and this semester we are hosting a special Autism-friendly screening of Lego Batman. We're hosting two very special free screenings of I, Daniel Blake in association with Unite the Union and on April Fools' Day, we're holding a hilarious Fools Festival of British Comedy Cinema. We are volunteer-run so if you'd like to get involved, please get in touch. www.filmunit.org.uk

Once again many thanks to all our staff, volunteers and of course, our audience!

PLEASE NOTE: Online ticket sales include a 10% booking fee.
