1917 is a war movie about an impossible message delivery that could save more than a thousand men. In France, a section of the British troops is warned that one of their battalions is heading into a German ambush. Schofield and Blake, two young soldiers, are sent off on a race against the clock through no man's lands and across battlefields to prevent their fellow countrymen from being slaughtered. 1917 aligns focuses on the individuals who fought in the war, on those who took immeasurable risks for the greater good of our country. It goes without saying that such a film has to be seen on the big screen, to better appreciate its visuals and the suspense of its storyline.
About Film Unit
Film Unit is the award winning independent cinema located in the Sheffield Students' Union. Founded in 1949, we are a group of cinema lovers who desire to provide entertainment, to be not for profit, and to promote film as an art form.
We screen a selection of films on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during term time, with the cheapest ticket price in Yorkshire. We specially curate our programme with blockbusters, independent, foreign, family and classic cinema, to ensure we provide something for everyone. For us, cinema should be for everyone, so all our standard screenings are open to the public, our matinee screenings are Hard of Hearing friendly with subtitles and this semester we are hosting a special Autism-friendly screening of Lego Batman. We're hosting two very special free screenings of I, Daniel Blake in association with Unite the Union and on April Fools' Day, we're holding a hilarious Fools Festival of British Comedy Cinema. We are volunteer-run so if you'd like to get involved, please get in touch. www.filmunit.org.uk
